Wholesome Sweeteners Organic Sucanat is produced by simply crushing the freshly-cut sugar cane to squeeze out the juice, heating until it is reduced to a thick syrup and then hand-paddling to create the porous Sucanat granules. And that is it, Sucanat is a dehydrated whole cane sugar that has not been separated or blended, basically nothing has been added and nothing taken out!

Sucanat has a distinct natural molasses flavor which is especially good in chocolate-based recipes, BBQ sauces & marinades. It is also great for baking, on hot cereals and in beverages. Use as a 1-for-1 replacement for refined sugar.

Good For the Planet: Sucanat is produced from certified organic sugar cane grown on a sustainable family farm in Costa Rica. The Sucanat Mill is energy self sufficient – we use the crushed cane stalks, called bagasse, as fuel for the boilers which generates the electricity for the Mill, so we do not need to use any fossil fuels. We green cut the cane – which means that we do not burn or spray the fields and the sugar cane is cut by hand. The leaves and tops of the cane plant are left in the field as a nutrient source for the soil and as a natural form of weed control.
